Mental Strength’s Assessment
The Mental Strength’s assessment is an online measure that evaluates athletes on five essential mental abilities related to peak performance: (1) Drive, (2) Attitudes, (3) Focus, (4) Self-Regulation, (5) Mental Skills. The measure provides scores on 30 subscales related to these essential mental strengths. The measure has been taken by more than 5,000 athletes and has been used by many sport psychologist and coaches. Each athlete who takes the Mental Strength’s assessment is given a report that compares her/him to an elite sample of athletes (Division I, Full Scholarship, Uninjured College Athletes, Olympic Athletes, and Professional Athletes). Dr. Brassington and two talented software engineers (Andreas Kipf & Alexander van Renen) are developing a mental skills training application for the iphone that will allow individuals to prepare mentally for important performance (e.g., examinations, sports competitions, board meetings, etc.). Dr. Brassington is collaborating with best selling co-author Christopher Vaughan on a book about creating the optimal mental and physical state for performance. The will be a very practical book. It will contain stories about performers who know how to stay motivated, overcome setbacks, and achieve peak performances.
